The Firm

Our history:

Lauren M. Phelps, PLLC, is the continuation of a family law firm that has been developing since Lauren joined Robert Phelps to create Phelps and Phelps law firm upon her graduation from University of Iowa College of Law in 1992.  The general practice firm’s focus was litigation, especially in areas that directly affect individuals, such as criminal and family law.

Today, Lauren and her son, Randall L. McNaughton, a 2001 graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, continue the tradition of helping people deal with their legal problems, one by one.  Although most of the firm’s work focuses on solving the kinds of legal problems that arise in families, such as divorce and custody issues, adoption, and adult and child guardianships, because this is a general practice law firm, we are prepared to assist with other issues that may arise, such as real estate transfers, wills and estate planning, business planning, and even criminal law.

Our clients:

Our clients are mainly individuals and families, although our clients have included many small and medium-sized businesses.  We know that your legal issues are only one part of your life, and will help you find solutions that fit your circumstances and needs.

Our goals:

As your attorneys, our goals are simple:

  • First and foremost, to do what is necessary to assure your safety, and the safety of your loved ones.
  • To understand your individual situation thoroughly.
  • To help you understand your options, and the risks and benefits associated with them, and assist you in making the best decisions possible.
  • To aggressively represent you, both in and out of court, to achieve the best possible result based on your unique facts and circumstances.
  • To help make your experience with the legal system as painless as possible.
