History
Lauren Phelps was born in Vallejo, California, in 1952. The only child of a stay-at-home mom and a union factory worker, she finished high school, raised her son. After a 20-year career in the clerical field, the last 8 years of it in a law office, she graduated from the University of Iowa Law School, with distinction, in 1992, at age 40.
Until 2000, she practiced in partnership with another attorney, then spent about five years acting as corporate counsel for businesses in which she had interests. In 2005, she opened her own law office as a sole practitioner.
Over the years, she has received recognition for her accomplishment, including the Linda K. Neuman Award for the Professions and and the Fourteenth Annual Governor's Volunteer award.
Hobbies
When not practicing law, Ms. Phelps loves to read and to write, with 6 published novels to her credit. She also enjoys travel, and playing the piano for friends and relatives.
